Why Use sendspace?

Sendspace is the best way to send large files, too big
for email attachments, to friends, family and
businesses, anywhere in the world.

It is not possible to send a big file as an email
attachment. Yet, it is not unusual to want to share a
large file with others, sendspace is the answer!

Our basic service is totally free. You can upload files
as big as 300MB (even larger files can be sent in split
parts).

Receiving files is just as easy. The uploader gives you
a link to the download page. Once there, click on the
file link and you can begin downloading it to your
computer.

We call our free service sendspace Lite. Users can
send large files to family and friends around the world,
completely free - all with a few clicks of the mouse.

For a small monthly premium, sendspace Max
members benefit from extra features, including the
ability to create a DropBox, enjoy simultaneous
multiple downloads and much more.

Although we have packed sendspace with many useful
features, using our service is easy.

This guide will show you how...

Getting Started - Registration

You can use sendspace without registering, but you
will not be able to use all the features. Registration is
free and we recommend that all users join.

To join, look for the link 'Signup for FREE!' in the top
left of the site. This will take you to the registration
page.

There some information we need in order to complete
the registration. It is marked in bold print.

Username: Please enter a username of your choice. If
you choose a username that is already in use, after
clicking 'Register', the error message 'This username
already exists. Please choose a different one' will be
displayed. Simply enter a different username and try
again. The username can only consist of letters and
numbers. If you use unusual characters, an error
message will appear when you click 'Register'.

Full Name: Please enter you full name.

Email: Please enter your email address. We need this
address to contact you if needed. You will be sent an
email with an activation link to confirm your address,
so it is important that you enter your address properly.
Don't worry, we hate Spam too, so we'll never send
you unsolicited mail or give other people your address.

Please note: Some free email service providers may
wrongly identify our emails to you as spam. After
clicking 'Register', you may see the message 'Our
emails may be blocked by this provider. We
recommend you use a different email address, or press
'Register' to continue'. Enter a different email address,
or continue. If you do continue, you may need to look
in your spam or trash folder for the activation email.

Password: Please create a password for your account.
You may use a combination of letters and numbers.
The password must be between 4 and 10 characters
long. If the password is too short or too long, a
message will appear after you have clicked 'Register'
and you will need to enter a different password before
continuing.

Confirm Password: Enter the same password a second
time. This is to make sure you entered the password
correctly. Your password is important. Never share it with anyone else.

Primary Use: Please select from the dropdown options
your primary use for sendspace. The options are:
'Personal', 'Business', and 'Business and Personal'.

Connection	speed: Please tell us your Internet
connection	speed, if you know it. This statistical
information	helps us to provide you with a better
service.

Age Group: Please tell us what age group you belong
to. This helps us to know more about who are using
sendspace the most.

Checkbox; I have read and agree to the terms of
service: To use sendspace, you must agree to our
terms of use. If you click on the link 'terms of service',
a new page will open.

If you agree to our terms of use, put a tick in the
checkbox.

Register: After completing the form, click the 'Register
button. If you have forgotten anything, or there is an
error, a message will appear around the field that has a
problem. Make your correction and click 'Register'
again. You will then see this page:
The registration process is almost complete. In order
to confirm your email address, we automatically send
you an email containing an activation link. You will
need to check your email inbox and click on the
activation link to complete registration. The email also
explains what to do.

We always send out the activation email. If you do not
receive it after a few minutes there may be a problem.

Occasionally, some programs and free email address
providers, including Hotmail and Yahoo, wrongly
identify the activation email as spam. If you cannot find
our email in your inbox, please check the location used
to store junk mail and spam messages.

If you wish, you can ask us to send the registration
activation email again. To do this, go to the login page
and click on the link 'Resend activation' and enter your
email address. We will then send another activation
email to you.

When you click on the activation link, we automatically
complete your registration. You can now enjoy the
benefits that free registration at sendspace brings,
including link retrieval, file tracking and editing.

Downloading - Getting the Link

To download a file from sendspace to your computer,
you need a link to the download page for that file. The
uploader provides the link to others.

You cannot search for files on sendspace.

sendspace is a service that enables people to share
big files. We do not upload the files for sharing
ourselves.

If the uploader has not provided the download page
link to you, there is no way to retrieve the file.

Download Page - The Basics

If you are given a download link from an uploader,
will usually be to a download page on sendspace.

Basically, you need to click on the file download Mr
which is located around the middle of the pac
preceded by a red animated arrow.

download Links

Your browser will then ask you what to do with the file;
open it or save it to a location. If you right-click on the
link there are similar options. What you see depends
on the browser you are using, and how it is configured.

Save the file to a location on your computer and that's
it, you have retrieved that file!

Download Page - The Details

The download page will contain advertisements. This
is how we pay to maintain a free service, and subsidize
the premium service. Users of sendspace Max
members do not see advertising.

The page will also contain sendspace user tips and
promotions. If you are a Max user, the page will include
text to welcome you as a Max user and provide some
account statistics, including how much daily download
bandwidth you have remaining. It is essential that Max
users are logged in when trying to download. Max
users have guaranteed download slot availability and
no speed restrictions.

The page will also contain some information about the
file:

If the uploader included a description, it wil
displayed.

There are a number of information/error messages
may also be displayed.

Download Page - Messages

If you go to a download page, you may be shown an
error message. There are many reasons why this may
be. Examples are given and explained below:

Downloads of this file have been blocked by the
uploader. sendspace is not able to help you in this
matter.

An uploader, who is also a sendspace Max member,
has the ability to block downloads of their files at any
time. They can limit downloads by date and by amount
of downloads (How to do this is explained later). If a
file becomes blocked, downloaders are shown the
message above. As mentioned, sendspace is not
involved - you would need to contact the uploader
directly if you want the file.

The file has been deleted by the uploader. sendspace
is not able to help you in this matter.

An uploader can delete any of their files at any time.
The file would need to be uploaded again, sendspace
does not upload files - you would need to contact the
uploader directly.

The file has been deleted. Unfortunately, it did not
comply with the terms of service.

If a file does not comply with our terms of service it
may be deleted. The file is no longer available.

This file was available for a limited period of time and
has now been deleted. For more information please
check our FAQ's.

We do not delete active files. We will host the file
indefinitely until it becomes inactive, in the case of

sendspace Lite uploaders. A file becomes inactive if
it has not been downloaded at least once during a set
period (check FAQ online for timeframe), after which it
may be deleted. If you see this message, the file has
been deleted and you will need to contact the uploader
directly so they may re-upload the file for you.

Sorry, the free service is at full capacity. Please try
later or upgrade to sendspace Max to enable
guaranteed slots and instant, fast downloads.

sendspace is one of the busiest file sharing sites in the
world. We would like to provide enough bandwidth for
everyone to download whenever they wanted.
Unfortunately, providing a service like this is very
costly, forcing us to limit the free service to one that
can be sustained by advertising revenue. If you see the
message above, the free service really is at full
capacity and you will need to try again later.

The download link has been updated. You may now
download the file.

Direct file linking is disabled. If you see this message it
means the link to the file in the download page had
expired - perhaps the page was left open a long time.
We automatically update the link when you try to
download an expired link and show this message. You
may then try to download the file again.

Sorry you have reached the maximum permitted
parallel downloads. Please finish your current
download first or upgrade to sendspace Max to enable
multiple, fast, top priority downloads.

If you are not already downloading, you are sharing
your Internet connection with someone who is. You
may be connected by shared IP or by a Proxy. Our free
service allows one connection per IP only.

In order to keep our service fair for all free users, we
only allow one download at a time.

Some users see this message even though they are
not downloading, sendspace accurately records all IP
activity. This problem can occur when your Internet
service provider uses a shared IP for network
downloads or if the user is connected by a shared IP or
is using a proxy.

A proxy server, or a shared IP, allows many computers
on a network to share a single IP connection to the
Internet. It is sometimes used at places of employment,
universities and by some Internet service providers.

Therefore, although you may not be downloading files
it is still possible to see this message, depending on
your IP connection. You may test your connection at:

Sorry, you have reached your daily download limit.

sendspace Lite users can download up to 1GB a day,
free of charge, sendspace Max users can download up
to 4GB a day. If you download more than this, you will
see the above message.

Some free users see this message even though they
are not downloading, sendspace accurately records all
IP activity. As above, this problem can occur when
your Internet service provider uses a shared IP for
network downloads or if the user is connected by a
shared IP or is using a proxy.

You may test your Internet connection for this problem
at:

Sorry, this connection has reached the 300MB hourly
download limit. Please try again later.

We help share the available bandwidth with all free
users by limiting downloads to 300MB an hour for
those with very fast connections. If you see this
message, try again after a few minutes, sendspace Max
users are not restricted.

Using sendspace through ... is prohibited. Please
access sendspace directly.

If you see this message, the site you came from is
linking to us incorrectly and has been blocked.

We are experiencing technical difficulties. Our support
staff have been notified and we hope to resolve the
problem shortly. Please try again later.

Hopefully this is a message you will never see.

Your browser does not support JavaScript or
JavaScript is disabled. You must enable JavaScript or
use a JavaScript supported browser for this site to
function correctly.

sendspace relies on JavaScript to function. You will
need to enable JavaScript in your browser, if it is
turned off, or use a browser that supports JavaScript.
As a result, some text-based browsers are not suitable for sendspace use.

Download Page - Passwords

An uploader, who is also a premium member, is able to
set a download password to protect their file. If you
given a download page link to a file protected by a
download password, you will need to enter it correctly
before the download can begin.

If you enter the password correctly, the page will
refresh and the download link will be made available. If
you do not have the correct password, an error
message will be shown. You will need to try again.

If you do not have the correct password, do not
contact sendspace asking for it. The password can
only be provided by the file uploader. We are unable to
provide this security information.

Download Page - After the Download

After downloading, you are able to go to the location of
the file on your computer and use the file.

We do not upload files, our users do. If you have a
problem opening the file, need missing media codecs,
zip file passwords, or anything else, please do not
contact sendspace for advice. You will need to contact
the uploader directly.

Uploading - Sending a File

sendspace is the best way to send big files. Using
sendspace, you can bypass all the limitations of
sending files as email attachments and share large
files with friends, family and businesses, anywhere in
the world.

How does it work? First, you upload your file to
sendspace and we provide you with a download file
link. Give that to the recipient and they can download
the file from our servers.

The file can be downloaded an unlimited number of
times by as many people as you want, for as long as
you want, as long as the file stays active. A file
becomes inactive if it has not been downloaded at
least once during a set period (check FAQ online for
current timeframe), after which it may be deleted,
sendspace Max members' files are not deleted, even if
they are inactive.

Upload Speeds

We allow uploads without speed restrictions. However,
if you are connected with a typical broadband
connection you may only achieve around a 20KB per
second send/upload speed. This is because broadband
providers often set a much lower rate for upload
speeds than download speeds.

Therefore, the speed you can upload at will depend on
your broadband connection, rather than sendspace or
our servers.

Uploading - Unregistered Users

You can send a file without registering. However, you
will not be able to see if it was downloaded by the
recipient. Registered users can also edit their uploaded
files details and retrieve the download link at a later
time. Your files can earn Max points that can later be
converted to a free premium account. Registration is
free, and we recommend it for all users.

If you use the upload form, and you are not registered
or logged in, you will be asked to agree to our terms of
service.

Q] I have read snd sgre- to th~ f.f;Oi)j...o|..s^i.v1c.

You can click on the link, 'terms of service', for full
details.

Uploading - Registered Free User

The main upload form is explained below. Sending files
through sendspace is very easy:

Select file (up to 300MB): The first thing is to select the
file you want to upload to sendspace from your
computer. Press the 'Browse' button and your browser
will open a window for you to locate and select your
file.

What you see exactly, will depend on your operating
system and the browser you use, but it will probably be
familiar to you. Find and select the file you want to
upload.

The file can be any size, up to a maximum of 300MB.
This size is a hundred times larger than most email
service providers allow for attachments. If you want to
send an even bigger file, we allow file splitting. There
are a number of software applications that can do this
for you, including WinZip. Please refer to the help files
for your archive program for more details of how to
split files.
You cannot upload folders - only individual files. This
is a restriction of the browser and not sendspace.
However, it is possible to upload more than one file at
a time, using our Multiple File Uploader, explained
later.

Description (optional): You may enter a small
description of the file you are uploading. This may be
helpful to the recipient. This is an optional field, and is
not required.

Folder (optional): Members can create folders to
organize their uploaded files. If you have created
folders, this optional field lets you choose which folder
you want the new file to be uploaded to. If you do not
complete this field, the file will be uploaded to your
default folder.

Recipient's email (optional): If you enter an email
address into this field, we will send them the download
link automatically after you have finished uploading.
The email will tell them that a file is waiting for them to
download. This is an optional field.

Send me an email with the link tick box: You can
request that we send an email to your registered
address to confirm your upload and give you the
download file link and the delete file link. This can be a
useful way to keep a record of your upload. This field
is optional. In the preferences page in Mysendspace,
explained later, you may set whether the tick box is on
or off by default.

Upload File: This will begin the file upload.

What happens next is explained after detailing a few
differences in the upload form if you are a sendspace
Max member:

Uploading - sendspace Max Member

The basic upload form is the same as a registered free
user, but there are some extra fields available to you.

After selecting your file, there are additional optional
fields available to sendspace Max members:

Password (optional): sendspace Max members have
the option to add a password (up to 10 digits) to
protect files from unauthorized downloads. A user
would need to enter the password before the download
begins. If you leave this field blank, no password is
created.

"Other Options: Remote URL Uploader - this is a link
to another upload form. You may provide the URL
location of a file elsewhere on the Internet, and we will
retrieve it for you.

Uploading - What Happens Next

The upload will begin and you will be able to see how
the upload is progressing with our progress meter.

You do not have to do anything on this page. The
progress meter will show you your upload activity.
More details are provided above the bar. We show you
how much you have uploaded so far, how much is
remaining, the estimated time before completion and
how much time it has taken so far.

It is important that you do not close this browser
window during the upload. If you do, the browser will
cancel the upload. If you want to continue to use the
browser during an upload, make sure you open a new
browser window or tab. Do not click on any of the links
on this page unless you are opening them in a new tab
or browser window.

You can cancel the upload at any time. Just click on
the 'Cancel Upload' button. An alert will pop up to
confirm your decision. After that, if you continue to
want to cancel the upload, you will be returned to the
main upload page.
You will need to make a note of the download link in
order to give it to others.

If you entered a recipient's email address in the upload
form, we will automatically send the download link to
them. Likewise, if you have requested an email
confirmation, we will automatically send these details
to your email address.

Note: We do not provide the File delete link to
recipients. This information is only included in the
email we send you.

For your convenience, the download link is available in
a number of formats on this page.

Download Link: This is the standard URL download
link to the download page for this file. We do not allow
direct file linking.

Make this link a direct download - buy bandwidth: The
download link normally opens a download page.
However, it is possible to convert the link for direct
downloading - no pages will be shown. If you select

this option, you can pay for bandwidth that will be
used to share the files directly. You will be able to
monitor the file activity in My Files.

Download link in HTML: This is the same link, Preformatted
into HTML for copy/pasting into websites,
myspace or other social networking sites, blogs and so
on.
Download link in forum code: This is the same link,
pre-formatted in the style used by some forum sites,
such as phpBB and vBulletin.

File Delete Link: If you use this link, the uploaded file
will be deleted. You can also edit and delete files in
Mysendspace at any time.

If you have uploaded a file, and you have not
registered, you will need to keep a note of this
information. It cannot be obtained at a later time. We
recommend that all users register. Registration is free.

There are some informational and error messages
shown on the upload form page, the progress page
and the download links page:

Sorry, the file exceeds the maximum allowed size of
300MB.

Please make sure the file you are uploading does not
exceed the maximum allowed size. You may need to
compress/zip the file before attempting to upload
again.

There is a maximum size for files uploaded onto
sendspace to make them more manageable and easier
to retrieve by the downloaded If the file you are
attempting to upload is too big, you will see this
message.

If the file has not been archived, as a zip file, for
example, you may be able to compress the size of the
file before trying to upload again. If the file is still too
big, you may need to split the file into two or more
parts.

We recommend you use a Zip utility program, such as
WinZip, to do this:

The following information applies to WinZip. If you are using a
different program, refer to its help files if you are unsure how to
proceed. To split a Zip file into smaller pieces:
1.	Open or create the Zip file.
2.	Choose Split from the Actions menu.
3.	Specify the name to be used for the split Zip file. The name must be different from the name of the open Zip file.
4.	Specify the size to be used for the individual parts. You can choose from common sizes using the Part size drop-down list or
you can specify your own size. To specify your own size,

choose "Other size" in the drop-down list and type the desired
size in the Other size field. You can specify the size in bytes,
kilobytes (KB), or megabytes (MB); indicate which you're using
by clicking the appropriate radio button. For uploading to
sendspace, make sure you make the split files less than 300MB
each.
5. Click OK to create the split Zip file.

Your upload has been cancelled.

If you decide to cancel your upload, we return you to
the main upload form page and inform you. You may
begin another upload if you wish.

Your browser does not support JavaScript or
JavaScript is disabled. You must enable JavaScript or
use a JavaScript supported browser for this site to
function correctly.

sendspace relies on JavaScript to function. You will
need to enable JavaScript in your browser, if it is
turned off, or use a browser that supports JavaScript.

An error occurred during file upload. Please try again.

Hopefully you will not see this message.

If you are seeing this error it is likely you are running
an active Firewall protection program or an Anti-virus
program that is interfering with the upload process.
You may need to review your software settings or
disable them when uploading.

You can also try to upload using our alternative Flash
based Uploader.

It is possible that some Firewall protection programs
or anti-virus programs can cause an error during
uploading; it depends on your settings.

Uploading - Multiple Files

If you want to upload more than one file, you may use
our Multiple File Upload form. The link is situated at the
bottom of the normal upload form.

Using the multiple file uploader, you may browse and
select up to 5 files for uploading. Each file can be up to
300MB each. The form is Flash-based.

To use, click on the 'Add a File' button. A browse
window will open and you can select a file to upload.

After selecting a file, you will be offered the chance
add a small description. This is optional.

You can edit the information before uploading begins
by selecting the file you want to edit, and then clicking
on the 'Edit Info' button.

Remove: You can remove a selected file from your
download list by clicking on this button.

Clear List: This button will remove all the files from
your upload file list so you may begin again.

If you want to upload more than one file, just repeat the
steps again, up to 5 times.

Recipient's email: This field is optional. You may enter
an email address here and the recipient will be sent the
download links to the files.

Your email: This field is optional. If you want to confirm
your upload and receive all the download links and
delete file links, enter your email address here.

I have read and agree to the terms of service
checkbox: You must agree to our terms of service. All
the files you upload must be compliant. You may view

the terms of service by following the 'terms of service'
link.

Finally, you may click the Start Upload to begin the
process.

We do not upload all your files at the same time.
Rather, they are uploaded one by one in a list.

You will be shown two progress bars. The top bar is
the progress for the currently uploading file. The lower
bar is the total upload progress. You can cancel the
uploading at any time.

Once the uploading has completed, you will be shown
all the file download links.

If you click on 'Click for more link options', we will
display the same download link, but pre-formatted in
HTML (for use in web sites, myspace, blogs, etc), and
in Forum code (for use in phpBB, vBulletin, etc), for
your convenience.

If you entered a recipient's email address, they will be
automatically sent the links. If you entered your own
email address, a confirmation email with the download
links and delete file links will be sent.

Uploading Multiple Files - Messages

There is an error message shown on the download
links page that is specific to multiple downloads. For
all other messages, please refer to the previous
'Uploading - error messages' section.

Sorry, one or more of the files exceeded our individual
upload limit of 300MB and was deleted. Please ensure
each file is not bigger than 300MB.

This message is self explanatory. We allow all files
being uploaded to be 300MB each, or less.

Remote Uploading - Max members

What is remote uploading? We will fetch a file from
another Internet location and add it to your account. All
we need is the HTTP or FTP link to the file and it will be
collected. We also support username and password
authentication, if needed.

The link is located on the main upload form if you are
logged in as a premium member:

The remote uploading form looks very similar to the
standard upload form for premium users and is just as
easy to use.

Enter URL (max size 300MB): Please enter the URL for
the file you want us to fetch. This could be an HTTP or
FTP link. We also support username and password
authentication, if needed. A typical URL format (FTP
link) for file locations needing authorization would look
like this:

ftp://iisername:password(a)ftp.voiirsite.com/file/path/fil

For an HTTP link, it would look like this:

The file must be 300MB or less.

Description (optional): You may enter a small
description of the file you are uploading. This may be
helpful to the recipient. This is an optional field.

Folder (optional): If you have created folders, this
optional field lets you choose which folder you want
the new file to be uploaded to. If you do not complete
this field, the file will be uploaded to your default
folder.

Password (optional): You can add a password (up to 10
digits) to protect your files from unauthorized
downloads. A user would need to enter the password
before the download begins. This is an optional field.

Recipients email (optional): If you enter an email
address into this field, we will send them the download
link automatically after you have finished uploading.
This is an optional field.

Send me an email with the link, checkbox: You can
request that we send an email to your registered
address to confirm your upload and give you the

download file link and the delete file link. This field is
optional.

Upload File: click on this button to begin the transfer.
You will be shown a progress meter and given
download links, just like a normal upload.

Our servers will usually fetch the file very quickly. The
actual speed often depends on the remote server.

It is important that you do not close this browser
window during the remote upload. If you do, the
browser will cancel the upload. If you want to continue
to use the browser during an upload, make sure you
open a new browser window or tab. Do not click on any
of the links on this page unless you are opening them
in a new tab or browser window.

Cancel Upload: You may cancel the upload at any time
by pressing the 'Cancel Upload' button.

Remote Uploading - Messages

This section explains error messages specific to the
remote uploading form. Please refer to the previous
'Uploading - error messages' section for a list of
standard uploading error messages.

Unable to locate file. Please check the URL.

This means we tried to fetch the file, but our servers
could not locate it at the URL you provided. This could
be because you entered the URL incorrectly. It could
also be because the remote location is unavailable at
this time.

Downloads from the URL you provided are not allowed.

The remote location will not allow the download/upload
to begin.

Unauthorized. Please include a valid username and
password.
The remote location requires a valid username and
password before allowing the download/upload. Please
add, or edit, the username and password in the URL
and try again. A typical URL format (FTP link) for file
locations needing authorization would look like:

ftp://iisername:password(a)ftp.voiirsite.com/file/path/fil

For an HTTP link, it would look like this:

ame.example

Upload stopped. Connection timed out.

The remote location is not responding. The connection
has timed out. Please try again.

Download failed. Downloads from the host you
specified are not guaranteed to work. Please make
sure that the link provided is still valid.

If you provide a URL for a file located on another file
sharing network, or a site where links become invalid
after a download or a period of time, the address you
give us could become invalid. You would need to make
sure the link is currently working.

Using the File Delete Link

When you upload a file we provide a download file link
and a delete file link to the uploader. If you follow the
link you will see the following message:

If you press the 'Delete File' button, the file will
permanently deleted from sendspace and you will see
the following message:

Thank you. The file has been successfully deleted from
sendspace.

You may also delete files in Mysendspace/MyFiles at
any time.

Search feature

You cannot search sendspace to locate files. The
location of a file must always be provided by the
uploader. This is because of copyright, security, privacy and other legal matters. If you do not have the
URL of the download page, we are unable to assist
you.

Mysendspace

Registered users are able to manage their uploaded
files, change user preferences, and collect Max points
that can be redeemed for a free premium account.
Premium members have access to more features,
including a DropBox feature for receiving files from
others, directly into their sendspace account.

This is all managed in Mysendspace, your registered
account administration area.

You may access this area in two ways.

A link to Mysendspace is located in the top left side of
the site if you are logged in. Also, whenever you log
into your account, we direct you to the front page of
Mysendspace.

Our explanation of the features available, and how to
use them, has been split into two parts when needed:
for Lite users, and for Max members.

Mysendspace - Home

When you login, or click on the Mysendspace link in
the top left of the site, you are taken to the
Mysendspace Home page. A new navigation menu will
be visible, underneath the main site menu tabs.

The Home page displays a brief summary of your
account status.

Total Disk Space Used: This is the amount of disk
space your uploaded files are taking on sendspace. We
do not limit the amount of disk space you use,
although inactive files (check our FAQ online for
current timeframe) are automatically removed. We
never delete an active file; it is available for an
unlimited amount of time.

We also show you how many Max points you have
earned. This is explained in more detail later. You earn
one point for every valid download of your files. The
more files you share, the more points you earn. They
can be redeemed for free Max membership.

Invited and Registered: We also tell you how many
friends you have invited to join sendspace and how
many Max points this has earned you. Invitations are
explained in more detail later.

Underneath the account status bar, we provide extra
sendspace information, news and useful links.

sendspace Max members are also shown some
membership details, including how much they have
downloaded that day, and how many days membership
are remaining until they need to renew.

MyFiles - Lite Users

You can create folders, edit your uploaded file details,
see how many times a file has been downloaded and
retrieve lost download links in MyFiles.

You can create online folders. This useful feature can
be used to organize your uploaded files better. You
can also share the entire folder.

At the top of the MyFiles page, there are two dropdown
boxes, 'Select Folder' and 'New Folder'.

To create a new folder, enter a name and press the
'Create' button. You will then see the message 'Thank
you, a new folder was created." Your new folder can
now be opened from the 'Select Folder' dropdown.

The 'Select Folder' dropdown contains the names of
the folders you have created. It also lists the 'Default'
folder - your account's main folder. You can also view
All Files/Folders together.

When you open a folder to view, if the folder contains
files they will be listed in a table just like the Myfiles
default folder.

The top of the page will also include a link to a folder
options/edit box. Once opened, you can change the
name of the folder, and change the folder privacy setting.

Folder: You may change the name of the folder by
entering the new name here.

Private, Shared button: By default, all the folders you
create are private, accessible only by you. However, it
is possible to share entire online folders with others.

If you choose to make a shared folder, we will create a
link for you to give to others. We also make an RSS
link which can be polled by any RSS reader, enabling
others to know when the contents are updated, using
an RSS viewer.

A shared folder is not a public folder. Only people you
have given the folder link to can view it. You can make
a folder private again at any time. Just select 'Private'
and update the folder options.

You can also delete the folder. If you choose to delete
the folder, all the files that were stored there will be
automatically moved back to the default folder. If you
want to delete files select them using the checkbox,
and press the 'Delete Selected Files' button at the
bottom of the file table

Once you have made changes to the folder options,
press the 'Update' button for your settings to be saved.
You can cancel your changes by pressing 'Cancel'.

At the top of the file table, we tell you how many files
you have available and how much disk space is being
used.

If you click on the column headings, the files listed in
the table can be re-arranged. You can list by Filename
A-Z, Filename Z-A, Description A-Z and Z-A, and by the
total number of downloads, highest or lowest first.

If you select the tick box in the column headings, all
files are selected or de-selected.

To edit any of the files, either click on the file name to
open the edit box for that file directly underneath, or, if
you want to edit more than one file, select the file or
files and press the 'Edit Selected Files' button at the
bottom of the page. This will open the edit feature in a
new window.

The edit box contains fields that can be edited and
useful information about the file:

Filename: You can change the name of the file here.

Description: You can add or edit a short description of
the file. This description will be shown on the
download page.

Update and Cancel button: Press the 'Update' button
after editing to save your changes. Press the 'cancel'
button if you do not want your changes saved.

To delete files from sendspace, select the file or files
you want deleted using the checkboxes, and press the
'Delete Selected Files' button at the bottom of the
page.

File size and Uploaded: The size of the file and the date
it was uploaded.

Link: This is the download link for the file. You provide
this link to recipients so that they may download the
file.

Make this link a direct download - buy bandwidth: The
download link normally opens a download page.
However, it is possible to convert the link for direct
downloading - no pages will be shown. If you select
this option, you can pay for bandwidth that will be
used to share the files directly. After purchasing, you
will be able to monitor the file activity here.

MyFiles - Max members

You can edit your uploaded file details, see how many
times a file has been downloaded, retrieve lost
download links, create and manage folders and set
download limits in MyFiles.

You can create online folders. This useful feature can
be used to organize your uploaded files better. When
combined with the DropBox tool and folder sharing
option, the folders feature becomes a powerful asset.
This is explained in more detail later.

Once opened, you can change the
name of the folder, and change the folder privacy
setting.

Sorting: You can set the order that files will be
displayed in your folder by using the dropdown
selector. The options are: upload date ascending,
upload date descending, file name, ascending or
descending, and file size, ascending or descending.

Once you have made changes to the folder options,
press the 'Update' button for your settings to be saved.
You can cancel your changes by pressing 'Cancel'.

You can also delete the folder. If you choose to delete
the folder, all the files that were stored there will be
automatically moved back to the default folder. If you
want to delete files select them using the checkbox,
and press the 'Delete Selected Files' button at the
bottom of the file table.

At the top of the file table, we tell you how many files
you have available and how much disk space is being
used.

If you click on the column headings, the files listed in
the table can be re-arranged. You can sort by Filename
A-Z, Filename Z-A, Description A-Z and Z-A, total
number of downloads, highest or lowest first, and sort
by last download date.

Password: You have the option to add/edit a password
(up to 10 digits) to protect your files from unauthorized
downloads. A user would need to enter the password
before the download begins. If you leave this field
blank, no password is created, and if you make it
blank, any existing password will be disabled. If a file
has been password protected, we display a lock icon
next to the filename in the MyFiles file table.

Folder: If you have created online folders, you may
move files between them. Select the folder you want
the file moved to using this dropdown box.

Time Limit: You can set a time limit that your files will
be available for downloading. By default, it is set to No
Limit. When the time expires, your file is no longer
available for download. The file can be set to be
available for an unlimited time, minutes, hours, days,
weeks and months. We also tell you the current setting
on the right of this option. If you select this option, an
icon is shown next to the file in MyFiles. If the file
expires, the icon changes to show that too.

Download Limit: You can set a maximum number of
downloads that a file may be downloaded. By default, it
is set to No Limit. You can set any of the suggested
amounts, or use 'custom' to set your own amount.
When the number is reached, your file is no longer
available for download. As with Time limit, we show an
icon next to the filename in MyFiles if you have set this
option.

Time Limit AND Download Limit: You may use both of
these options at the same time. Whichever option
expires first causes the file to be blocked. For example,
you could set the time limit to one week and the
download limit to 100. if there are 100 downloads by
day 5, the file will be blocked.

When Limit is Reached: You can decide what happens
when the Time Limit or Download Limit is reached. We
can block downloads only, or delete the file. If you
intend to make the file available again in the future,
select 'block downloads', but if the file is no longer to
be used, select 'delete file'.

Update and Cancel button: Press the 'Update' button
after editing to save your changes. Press the 'cancel'
button if you do not want your changes saved.

To delete files from sendspace, select the file or files
you want deleted using the checkboxes, and press the
'Delete Selected Files' button at the bottom of the
page.

Filesize and Uploaded: The size of the file and the date
it was uploaded.

Using a sendspace Shared Folder

All sendspace registered users can create and share
online folders. As the folder is updated, the files
become instantly available to anyone who has been
given the URL link to the folder.

RSS: We provide an RSS link which can be polled by
any RSS reader, enabling users to know when the
folder's contents are updated, using an RSS viewer.
The orange RSS link icon is placed before the folder
name, at the top of the page.

To download a file, select it from the available list and
click on 'Download'. You will be shown the download
page for that file and you can then download it in the
usual way.

DropBox - Max members

You can already upload files into your account, to a
folder of your choosing. With a DropBox, other people
can upload files directly into your sendspace account
too. It's like having your own virtual postbox!

There are two types of DropBoxes available. You can
create a small DropBox that you can put into your own
web pages. If you prefer, you can have a DropBox Page
that we host for you on sendspace. You can create
multiple DropBoxes if you want.

If a file is sent to you through a DropBox, it is uploaded
into a folder chosen by you. The file is then available to
you for downloading or forwarding to others. The
uploader is not given a download link. Rather, they are
informed the file has been delivered.

If you combine this feature with the shared folders
option, you can create your own private file-sharing
group.

First, you need to create a DropBox. There are two
types - a DropBox you put on your own website, or a
DropBox Page, which we host for you.

After deciding which type you want, enter a name for it
and press the relevant 'Create' button.

If you have already created a DropBox or DropBox
Page, you can edit it by selecting it in the appropriate
'Edit DropBox' dropdown menus.

In the following explanation, we will create a small
DropBox to be placed elsewhere on a web page first.

After pressing 'Create', or selecting a previously
created DropBox, you will be shown the DropBox edit
page.

The DropBox edit page includes the code you will need
to copy/paste into a web page, DropBox settings
editing and options to alter the colors used in order to
better match the DropBox to your site.

At the top of the page, you may open a different
DropBox for editing, if you have created one, or create
a new one.

DropBox Settings

You may edit the settings for your DropBox, including
locking its use to a particular domain and selecting the
upload folder:

DropBox name: The name of your DropBox is not
visible to others. It is for your benefit, useful for
identification if you have more than one DropBox
created. You can change the name here.

Upload to Folder: All uploads through your DropBox
will be sent to the folder you select here. Uploaded
files can go to your default folder or any other you
choose.

You can select a private folder, so that the files can
only be managed and downloaded by you. You can
also select a shared folder. This would mean that the
uploaded files would be visible and available to anyone
you have given the shared folder link, as soon as it is
uploaded. In this way, you can create a shared folder
and DropBox that enables a group to easily upload and
download, without having to send each other the
download link for each new file.

Email Notification: If you select this checkbox, we will
send you an email every time a file is uploaded to your
account through your DropBox.

Domain Lock: Enter your domain name if you want to
prevent your DropBox from working on other sites. For
example; If your site name is www.example.com, enter example.com only. The DropBox would then be locked
to your domain and the code would not work
elsewhere, if it was copied.

Uploader Email Required: If you select this checkbox,
the uploader must provide their email address. The
address is added to the file description. Please note: If
the DropBox is set to upload to a shared folder, the
email address will be displayed on the folder page as
part of the file description.

Description Required: If you select this checkbox, the
uploader will be required to enter a short description.
By default, the field is optional.

Your DropBox color palette can be changed to better
blend into your website. We offer some pre-designed
palettes, Plain, Gray, Blue, Green, Red and Black. You
can also select 'Custom', and create your own color
scheme.

You can set the colors to be used for the background,
the information text, the outer border and the progress
bar. There are three colors that make up the progress
bar - the main color, the actual progress-so-far color
bar and the color of the text that is used inside the
progress bar.

You can preview your changes as you make them. The
example DropBox on the page changes to match your
colors as you enter them. Your changes are not
applied until you press the 'Update' button, so you can
experiment with the colors as much as you want.

We have included a color palette for your convenience,
or you can enter the web palette number for each color
if you prefer.

When you have finished editing, press the 'Update'
button.

You can also delete your DropBox at any time, by
pressing the 'Delete DropBox' button.

You will need to add the DropBox code to your web
page. The code is displayed at the bottom of the page.

You do not need to update the code on you web pages
if you make changes to your DropBox. For example,
you may change the colors or change the folder
uploads go to. The code will not change. We identify
the DropBox from the code and display it with your
current settings.

DropBox - Messages

The following error and information messages may be
displayed when using the DropBox:

The Upload Has Been Cancelled

This is shown if the uploader presses the 'Cancel
Upload' button.

Upload Stopped, file exceeds the maximum allowed
size of 300MB

The file to be uploaded must be less than 300MB in
size or the upload will be stopped.

Your file has been delivered!

The file has been uploaded. If the DropBox owner has
requested it in the DropBox settings, an email is sent
to inform the owner a file has been delivered.

Sorry, This DropBox is not available.

If the DropBox is deleted or disabled, this message will
be shown.

There is an error with the code. Please tell the
Webmaster.

If the DropBox code was not copy/pasted correctly,
this message will be shown instead of the DropBox.
Please check the code has been added to the webpage
correctly.

Using a sendspace DropBox

If you are a sendspace Max member, you can create a
DropBox to receive files directly into a folder in your
account. The standard DropBox is displayed on web
pages not hosted by sendspace.

The DropBox colors may be different. This is because
the owner of the DropBox can edit its appearance.

To upload a file, press the 'Browse' button and locate
the file you want to upload. You may enter a short
description. The description field is usually optional.

The DropBox owner can require users to enter a
description and/or enter their email address. This can
be useful to them in identifying the sender of the file.
The DropBox would then look like this:

Enter a description and your email address in the
appropriate place. If you do not, you may see a
reminder alert when you press 'Upload'.

Press the 'Upload' button to begin sending your file.

A progress bar will be displayed.

Do not close or leave the web page during the upload
or it will be stopped by your browser. If you want to
continue using the Internet, open a new tab or browser
window.

You may cancel the upload at any time by pressing the
'Cancel Upload' button.

When the file has been uploaded, we inform you.
Unlike the normal upload service from sendspace, we
do not give the uploader a download link to the file or a
delete file link. Instead, the file is delivered to the
DropBox owner.

DropBox Page - Max members

If you are a sendspace Max member, you can create a
DropBox to receive files directly into a folder in your
account. There are two types of DropBoxes available.
You can create a small DropBox that you can put into
your own web pages or you can have a DropBox Page
that we host for you on sendspace.

To create a DropBox Page, go to 'DropBox' in the
Mysendspace navigation menu, enter a name, for
identification purposes, since you can create as many
DropBox Pages as you wish, and press 'Create'.

If you have created a DropBox Page previously, you
can edit it by selecting it from the appropriate
dropdown selector.

After pressing 'Create', or selecting a previously
created DropBox, the DropBox Page edit feature will be
displayed.

DropBox Name: The name of your DropBox Page is not
visible to others. It is for your benefit, useful for
identification if you have more than one DropBox
created. You can change the name here.

Owner Name: You can enter a name that will be visible
on the page. For example, 'Send a file to Peter Smith'.
If you do not enter a name, the text will read 'Send a
file to the DropBox Owner'.

Upload to Folder: All uploads through your DropBox
Page will be sent to the folder you select here.
Uploaded files can go to your default folder or any
other you choose.

You can select a private folder, so that the files can
only be managed and downloaded by you. You can
also select a shared folder. This would mean that the
uploaded files would be visible and available to anyone
you have given the shared folder link, as soon as it is
uploaded. In this way, you can create a shared folder
and DropBox Page that enables a group to easily
upload and download, without having to send each
other the download link for each new file.

Email Notification: If you select this checkbox, we will
send you an email every time a file is uploaded to your
account through your DropBox Page.

When you have finished editing, press the 'Update'
button.

You can also delete your DropBox Page at any time, by
pressing the 'Delete DropBox' button.

The DropBox Page UrI: Make a note of the link to your
DropBox Page. You will need to give it to others so that
they may send you files. If you edit your DropBox Page
in the future, the URL does not change.

Using a sendspace DropBox Page

A sendspace DropBox Page is a special upload facility
that allows you to upload a file directly to a sendspace
Max member. The member provides others with a link
to their own DropBox Page.

If you upload files using this page, you will not be
given a download link.

The page may include the name of the recipient, or it may say 'You can send a file to the DropBox owner'.

To use, press the 'Browse' button and select the file
you want to upload. The file must be 300MB or less in
size or the upload will be cancelled.

Short Description: You may add a short description.
You may also identify yourself so that the recipient
knows who has sent them the file. This field is
normally optional, but the DropBox owner can make it
a required field. We will tell you if the description is
optional or required.

Your Email Address (required): If you see this field,
please enter your email address. The DropBox owner

can require an uploader to enter their email address.
This helps them identify who has sent them the file.

The page also contains a link to our terms of service.
By using the DropBox, you must agree to our terms of
service. There is also a link called 'Get Your Own
DropBox'. This page provides you with details of how
you may join sendspace Max and have your own
DropBox facility.

When you are ready; press the 'Upload File' button.

We will display a progress bar to show you how your
upload is progressing. You can cancel the upload at
any time by pressing the 'Cancel Upload' button.

It is important that you do not close this browser
window during the upload. If you do, the browser will
cancel the upload. If you want to continue to use the
browser during an upload, make sure you open a new
browser window or tab.

A message, 'Thank you, your file has been delivered!'
will be displayed when the upload process is
completed. If the recipient has selected the option, an
email will be sent to them to inform them of your
upload.

If you would like to send the recipient another file, click
on the link, 'Upload another file'.

DropBox Page - Messages

The following error and information messages may be
displayed when using the DropBox Page:

Sorry, the file exceeds the maximum allowed size of
xxxMB.

Please make sure that the file you are uploading does
not exceed the maximum allowed size. You may need
to compress/zip the file before attempting to upload
again.

Your Upload Has Been Cancelled

This is shown if the uploader presses the 'Cancel
Upload' button.

Sorry, an error has occurred. Please try to upload the
file again.

If the upload fails, we show this message.

Sorry, the DropBox you requested is not available.
If the DropBox page you requested has been deleted or
disabled, this message will be shown. You will need to
contact the recipient directly.

Your file has been delivered!

The file has been uploaded. If the DropBox owner has
requested it in the DropBox settings, an email is sent
to inform the owner a file has been delivered.

Account Preferences

You can edit your registered email address and change
your password in Mysendspace/preferences.

New Password: You may use a combination of letters
and numbers. The password must be between 4 and 10
characters long.

Confirm Password: Enter the same password a second
time. This is to make sure you entered the password
correctly. Your password is important. Never share it
with anyone else.

No limit

Upload Speed Limit: When uploading files, some users
find that other Internet activity is affected, since all
available bandwidth is being used up by the upload.
Users with a broadband, ADSL or cable connection can
choose to set a lower upload speed limit than their
maximum available, making it possible to use the
Internet for other things at the same time as uploading.

No Limit: We allow uploads without speed restrictions.
However, if you are connected with a typical
broadband connection you might still experience an
upload speed limit as low as 20 KB per second. This is
because broadband providers set a much lower rate

for upload speeds than download speeds. This will
depend on your broadband connection and is in no
way related to sendspace or our servers.

Checkbox - Check this box to receive upload
confirmation emails: If you wish, we can send you an
email confirmation every time you upload a file. The
email will include the download and delete file links.
This option is included in the upload form too. If you
select this option here, we will automatically send the
emails each time you upload.

Invite a Friend

You can earn Max points that can be redeemed for a
free month of sendspace Max. We will give 100 points
for every invited friend that registers. We will also give
1000 points each and every time the invited person
purchases or extends a premium account.

Invitations can be made in two ways. The 'Invite a
Friend' page includes links to send a special invitation
email, or create your special URL invitation links.

Copy/Paste the special invite links and place them in
your web site/forum/blog etc.

You can also send an invitation email. You may add a
short message that will be included in the email. You
can send multiple emails.

Just add their email addresses, separated by commas
or on different lines.

We show you how many invitations you have made,
and how many points you have earned on the

Max Points

Registered users earn Max points by sharing their
uploaded files. We also give 100 points for every friend
they invite that registers. Even better, we will give
users 1000 points each and every time the person they
invited purchases or extends a Max or Pro account.

If you collect 10,000 points, they can be redeemed for
one month of sendspace Max, completely free!

You can add it to your own account or give it as a gift
to someone else by creating a Max points activation
code for them to use.

When you have collected 10,000 or more points, you
can automatically upgrade your account with a free
month of sendspace Max by pressing the 'Auto
Upgrade My Account' button.

You can also 'Create A Max Points Activation Code' to
give to someone else. If you press this button, we will
provide you with an activation code. Give this code to
another registered user and they will be upgraded to
sendspace Max for a month, completely free, after they
enter it in their account:

Your points never expire. You can continue to save
them or redeem them at any time.
